Are you ready to learn Mandarin? “The Mandarin Show” is the best way to learn Mandarin Chinese, because you don’t need to do any memorization. So how is that even possible? It’s the opposite of every other language-learning app out there. We know, and that’s why it works!

How often have you started learning a new language but instantly felt discouraged by complex grammatical rules and foreign words? It’s already hard to learn a new language and those apps you’ve been using make it even harder, which makes it even easier to give up.

The Mandarin Show changes the rules of language learning. Instead, we have turned it into a form of entertainment, with no memorization required.

The Mandarin Show is based on a new language learning technique developed by award-winning writer and designer Chris Cotter in the 1990s, and it was first successfully tested on his trips to China. This technique uses word association with English words you already know and connects them with Mandarin words and concepts. It’s a form of “mnemonic entertainment.”

What is Mnemonic Entertainment?

It’s a new way of learning that we created specifically for “The Mandarin Show.”

Mnemonic learning is a technique that helps you retain information easier by presenting associations between words in both languages. We are all familiar with mnemonic devices from school. And if you are a musician or play guitar, you are probably familiar with the one to help you remember your string chords: Eddie Ate Dynamite Goodbye Eddie.

But how does it work? “The Mandarin Show” takes this one step further by actually performing these associations as a form of entertainment. In other words, “mnemonic entertainment.”

What’s Entertaining About It?

It’s all a show! “The Mandarin Show” is a formatted late-night talk show that uses comedy sketches that link Chinese words with the sound of familiar English words. In each episode, you’ll walk away with more and more words to add to your vocabulary!

Learning a new language doesn’t need to be a painstaking process of notecard-making. It can be fun! In fact, The Mandarin Show language learning method is as easy as “pie.” Or should we say “beating a pie.” Watch “The Mandarin Show” here and see one lesson— skit — where a pie is beaten to visually teach you that “pie” (written as “pai” in Chinese) means to “beat” in Mandarin. Already, you can add one more word to your growing list of Mandarin vocab.

How Does It Work?

Very effortlessly. Simply download the app and begin watching.”The Mandarin Show” will show you how you already know Mandarin words because each word we teach you is directly linked to English. And the comedic performances in every episode help your mind to map out a connection between English and a word in Mandarin that you’ll never forget.

For instance, you already know the famous Shakespearean quote, “Woe is Me.” Well, it seems that Shakespeare knew Mandarin himself, since “Wo” actually means “Me” in Chinese. There you go, that’s now two words that you can add to your Chinese vocabulary list. It’s building quickly!

Making the Hardest Language in the World Easy

“The Mandarin Show” is the best way to learn Mandarin simply because it makes it so much fun. Learning a language takes work. Engagement and practice are involved, but that does not mean you must stay at your desk with your head in a book or do hours of mindless exercises on an app. Instead, you can enjoy The Mandarin Show’s colorful comedy segments that make this process light yet impactful.

The late-night format of this show breaks lessons down into different segments or “episodes.” There are two levels in this program. As you start out, you will begin with basic, single-syllable words. These are the core words of the Mandarin language. The English-speaking host, Andy Peake, will be your guide, along with his Mandarin-speaking side-kick “Confucius D.”

The sketches consist of gags and activities that really make you understand Mandarin words based on English words that you already know, like the episode about a popular Chinese appetizer: “cold lung.” “Lung” means “cold” in Mandarin. Watch comedian Andy Peake forcing himself to eat a cold dish made out of actual pig lungs, and you will never forget that “lung” means “cold.” That’s now three. Watch the “cold lung” episode here, so it can really sink in.

But the show changes the more you advance your Mandarin skills. Another segment features 1970s parodies of kung-fu movies. Each episode adds on to the next, so you’re really expanding your Mandarin knowledge.

In level two, you move to the kitchen where you combine the single words and prepare them into multi-syllable Mandarin words. You’ll next meet the “Tongue-Twister Sisters,” who will build upon your recipes in this unique sitcom series.

The entire Level 1 and 2 learning program consists of over 500 episodes.

Mandarin Grammar

Grammar is often the most challenging part of learning a new language. Fortunately, there aren’t tenses, plurals, or genders in Chinese. The grammar system of the Mandarin language is one of the simplest in the world. So don’t sweat it. The Mandarin Show will teach you the words and grammar you need to know to hold a basic conversation.

Learn with The Mandarin Show

The Mandarin Show is a different kind of language learning system, one that you have never encountered before. You don’t need to worry about conjugating verbs or scoring on quizzes; instead, just hit “play” as you chuckle along, learning Mandarin without memorization.
